Super simple ways you can make relatable video content
(No fancy setup. No awkward TikTok dances. Just you, being you.)
If you’ve ever thought, “I want to post more video content... but I have no idea what to say or where to start,” then welcome. You’re in the right place, and I’ve been exactly where you are.
I’m a millennial mom, content creator, and someone who genuinely believes that video is the best way to build trust online - but I also know how intimidating it can feel when you’re juggling a baby, a business, and a camera roll full of half-finished ideas.
Here’s the good news: you don’t need to go viral. You don’t want to go viral.
You just need to show up in a way that feels real, helpful, and doable for you.
So let’s make this easy:
🎥 1. Talk to the Camera Like a Friend
Skip the script and start with, “Okay, so here’s something I’ve been thinking about...”
It instantly feels natural. Warm. Human.
If you can tell a story to your best friend in a voice note, then you can make a talking-head Reel.
Try this:
“Today I got paid to...”
“Here’s a little behind-the-scenes of how I [do XYZ]”
“If you’re a [mom/biz owner/creator] like me, you might relate to this...”
People aren’t looking for perfect - they’re looking for people.
📱 2. Film It in Real Life (Messy House and All)
The best videos I’ve ever made weren’t shot in a clean studio - they were filmed during nap time, in the car, or with my toddler yelling the background (lol).
Let your real life be the content.
Try this:
Prop your phone up with a coffee mug
Use natural light
Add text overlay for context
That’s it. No fancy gear required.
⏱️ 3. Keep It Short + Start Strong
You have 3 seconds to hook someone - so skip the “Hey guys…” and go right into it.
Example:
→ “Here’s why I only work two days a week…”
→ “This one thing helped me stop ghosting my inbox.”
→ “If you’re tired of overthinking content - this is for you.”
Start with the problem or a bold thought. Then offer a bite-sized tip or story.
✨ 4. Reuse What You Already Know
If you’ve shared it in a Story, a DM, a blog post, or a client call... you can turn it into a video. I literally plan to turn this blog post into a Reel after I hit publish.
Your everyday thoughts are GOLD. You don’t need “new” ideas - you just need to say them out loud.
🧩 5. Use This Formula (When You Feel Stuck)
Here’s a no-pressure framework I love to use:
Hook – Start with the problem or question
Relatable moment – “I used to struggle with...”
Simple solution – “Here’s what helped me...”
Invite – “Let me know if you’ve tried this too.”
It works for tips, storytelling, and even soft selling.
🫶 Final Note:
Relatable content doesn’t mean sharing your deepest secrets or filming your whole day.
It just means showing up as you, in a way that makes someone else feel seen.
And when you do that? People remember you.
PS: You can be a mom, a business owner, a quiet person, a creative, a mess, a work-in-progress - and still make really great video content. I believe in you!!
You’ve got this.
Thanks for being here,
Kate
